Hot Springs Police Detectives arrested a local woman after she ran over her boyfriend and then backed over him again after an argument.
That’s according to Hot Springs police.
Jennifer Beals, 30, of 400 Golf Links in Hot Springs was charged with Domestic Battery, 2nd Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, 1st Degree. Each charge carries a $1,750 bond. On September 25 at approximately 1:10Pm, Cpl Goss and other patrol units responded to the intersection of Burchwood Bay Road and CoCo Bay Road in reference to a hit and run. Upon arrival, they located Leslie Townsend laying by the stop sign at the southwest corner of Burchwood Bay and CoCo Bay with serious physical injuries. A witness stated she heard yelling and squealing tires and looked over to see a light colored car running over him. The vehicle then backed up and ran over him again before fleeing north on Burchwood Bay. He was transported to Mercy Hospital.
While officers were on the scene with Townsend, another 911 call came in from 110 sunset Bay Road, which is the home of Jennifer Beals parents. Cpl. Goss responded and observed a silver Mazda Protege and noted it matched the description of the vehicle used to hit Townsend. Cpl. Goss made contact with Jennifer Beals and advised her of her rights. She admitted to driving the car and that she hit Townsend after they had gotten into a physical fight at Burchwood Bay and Twinpoints. She was then transported to Mercy Hospital for injuries sustained in the fight.
Detective Lampinen and Detective Stracener, responded to Mercy Hospital and spoke with Townsend. He stated that he and Jennifer had been dating for about 3 weeks and had an intimate relationship. He advised that they had gotten into a physical fight in the car at Burchwood Bay and Twinpoints. He got out and began walking north on the west side of Burchwood Bay. He stated the next thing he knew he got hit from behind by a car. After hitting him, she put the car in reverse and ran over him again. The detectives observed several visible injuries to his body and he had to have chest tubes put into both sides of his body.
The detectives spoke with Jennifer and asked her if she understood her rights. She stated that she did and voluntarily spoke with us. She reiterated the same story of the fight and that she began driving back to her parents but stated that Townsend jumped in front of her car and she swerved to the right to miss him.
This was a contradiction of the evidence and from witness statements. She stated that she knew she hit him and just kept going, denying she backed up and ran over him again.
Her 3 year old daughter was in the car as well when this incident occurred, putting her in danger of serious injury when Jennifer crossed into the opposite lane to run over Townsend
