Two Arrested After Vehicle Hits Bridge; Accident Closes Shady Grove Road
An accident involving a car striking a railroad trestle Monday evening sent one man to the hospital and caused two others to be put in handcuffs. A Hot Springs Police officer drove up on an accident that had apparently just occurred at the railroad trestle in the 200 block of Shady Grove Road around 6 o’clock and called for an ambulance.
A Chevrolet Impala had struck a support block on the bridge and was wrecked blocking one lane. One man was transported to National Park Medical Center by Lifenet with non life threatening injuries. Shortly after, officers were seen picking up a handgun out of the grass by the wreck and noted it was loaded. Two black males were then placed in handcuffs by officers and put in separate cars.
A supervisor for Arkansas Midland Railroad arrived and notified officers that the damage to the bridge would necessitate a safety risk and closed it to vehicle traffic. Officers were in the process of bringing barricades to shut off Shady Grove near the intersection with West Belding.
