Suspect Arrested After Wielding Knife at Picante’s Mexican Grill

A Hot Springs man has been arrested after waving a knife around inside Picante’s Mexican Grill Restaurant.

Willie Lee Smith, 65, of 208 Cedar Street in Hot Springs was arrested by Hot Springs police and charged with Aggravated Assault. The bond is $2,500.

That’s according to Hot Springs police.

According to the report, David Bazan, an employee of Picante’s Restaurant, (801 Central Avenue), stated on October 7 at approximately 9:00PM a male identified as Willie Smith came into the restaurant yelling and speaking incoherently.  Smith approached two other employees Israel Lopez and Jose Gutierrez displaying a small knife and holding it toward them. Smith then approached a group of female customers and attempted to sell them a book.

Bazan approached Smith and asked him to leave. Smith began waving the small paring knife with a broken blade two to three inches long back and forth between Bazan and the female customers in a threatening manner while yelling.

Smith left  on a bicycle on Broadway Street where he was located and detained by Sgt. Smith while still holding the knife. Bazan was transported to Broadway Street where he identified Smith as the actor.
