An accident Tuesday afternoon on the western edge of the city limits in Hot Springs ended up with a car landing on its roof but the way it got that way was quite out of the ordinary.
It occurred shortly after 2pm in the 2800 block of Albert Pike Road at the entrance to The Atrium Retirement Community.
A 1997 Ford pickup was traveling eastbound pulling a Buick Park Avenue on a utility trailer when somehow the car came off the trailer and flipped upside down near the side of the highway.
The truck then fled the scene headed into Hot Springs where it got onto the Martin Luther King Expressway headed east.
Witnesses stated that the trailer had blown a tire and was being drug by the truck.
At some point the truck took the McLeod exit off the expressway and abandoned the damaged trailer under the overpass bridge on McLeod Street.
One witness who saw the accident occur knew the person driving the truck and Hot Springs Police were able to determine that the driver had been arrested for DUI a few months ago in Hot Springs and possibly had a suspended driver’s license.
Officers were searching for the suspected driver at his residence but it was not known if they had located him or the truck.
